In US South, No Justice for Poor Women and Children

The New York Times reports today that after decades of progress infant mortality is on the rise in the southern US. Many are pointing to cuts in welfare and Medicaid, as well as lack of access to doctors. Reading between the lines, however, there is also a story of the feminine face of poverty, racial disparity, and a lack of access to sex education and family planning. It's a travesty that in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, women lack access to information that can save their children, as well as improve their own lives.

Travesty indeed and I doubt we'll see changes until 2009.

i need help, the young lady has money to pay bills and keep a roof over her kids head, they have a place to sleep and its out of the heat and cold, she has food on the table. yet because the grandmother that has temorary costody of one of the children, the young lady is told she not fit to care for her kids. they want her to admit to that her uncle has been sexualy abusing her children AND THAT IS NOT ABSOULTY NOT TRUE. BUT BECAUSE THE UNCLE HAS HAD JAIL TIME HIS GUILY AS PER THE GRANDMOTHER AND THE LAWYER THAT HAS BEEN ASSINED TO THE CHILD. Child Protective Services has already cleared him twice and this women is still chasing something that is not there. we as a family are guilty, and being judged without being able to be listend to. you see the grandmother has money to throw around and is coching the child to say what ever she wants to put into his little mind.. but because the mother has no money to hire an investigator we cant prove it. and the judicail system and this lawyer want to take the child away from mother.

there is no justice in this area for the mother, she is being corral by this ppl. money talks and it dont matter who you are. if you have money you are above the law. i am whole hearted dissapointed in the law system here in south texas. we have no one to turn too. we dont know where to go. we have a lawyer but even her, they wont listen to her. i have always taught my daughters that the law is there to help them. I WAS WRONG.

the grandmother hates the mom but she wants 100% costody of the child, so she is making it her breathing, sleeping, talking, eating, the mothers name to totally distroy mom. this is out of VENGENCE!!!! you see the young lady fell in love with the grandmothers ONE AND ONLY son, and the young lady was not her chose for her pride and joy. mind you his was 20years old at the time.
