Minnesota Doctors on th Front Line

As South Dakota becomes the epicenter of the abortion debate in the United States, a little known fact is that the only clinic that provides abortions in the entire state is staffed by doctors who fly in from Minnesota to do the procedures. KARE 11, the local NBC affiliate in the Twin Cities, did a fantastic feature on the 10:00 news last night. Here's an excerpt of their interview with Dr Paul Ridder, who is affiliated with the Alpha Center, and Sioux Falls crisis pregnancy center:

Still, Dr. Glenn Ridder says South Dakota is "a very pro-life state."

Ridder, a family practitioner, thinks the majority of South Dakotans are, like he is, strongly opposed to abortion. And he says they steadily apply what he calls "pressure."

"We had a physician that made a statement, a few years ago, that he would do abortions if he didn't have to take the heat on himself and his family," Ridder said.

When asked if "heat" meant "threats," Ridder said, "I don't know what it would be, just pressure."
